Caton - Healey by Caton Price: POA

Last Updated On: 20/03/2024

Healey by Caton is a reincarnation of a British automotive icon. It’s a representation of how Caton thinks Donald Healey would’ve created his iconic 100/4 if he had modern technology at his disposal. The exterior has been substantially redesigned to remove seam lines, exterior hinges and accentuate the existing flowing landscape of the car.

An increase in volume within the Healey’s rear haunches and a continuation of the front valance swooping towards the tarmac creates a more authoritative stance. The original four-cylinder engine has been bored out to 2954cc, fully lightened, and includes a full steel crank, more aggressive cam, high-compression pistons and gas flowed, larger two-inch twin H8 carburettors. The upgrades bring the engine up to more than double (185 bhp) the original power of the 100/4.

Healey by Caton has a 2954cc in-line four-cylinder engine, based on the one used in the original Austin-Healey 100/4. The four-cylinder was chosen as opposed to the later six-cylinder because it’s infinitely more tuneable. Healey by Caton has proven this by doubling the original 90 bhp output to 185 bhp with help from technical partners, J.M.E. Healeys.

Healey by Caton’s engine includes a fully lightened block and ported cylinder head with a full steel crankshaft, high compression pistons, twin SU H8 carburettors with gas flowed inlets and a competition camshaft with a more aggressive lobe profile, slipping against the all-new roller rockers. Mating a 185 bhp power unit to a lightweight chassis creates a 920 kg car resulting in a compelling top speed well above the original 100 mph the 100/4 was named after.

Contrary to the original Austin-Healey 100/4 with its cumbersome three-speed transmission and awkward gear lever, Healey by Caton is fitted with a space-saving five-speed gearbox with the lever conventionally mounted on top of the transmission tunnel.

Famously robust and fit for purpose, Healey by Caton retains the original Austin-Healey rear semi-elliptical leaf spring set-up, however, J.M.E. Healeys has added a damper system to improve road holding. Healey by Caton also features a double-wishbone and adjustable coil spring configuration at the front.

And to dress this reincarnated icon is the Caton coachbuilt bodywork. Enhanced, smoothed and with added volume, Healey by Caton has been sculpted by the English Wheel before being immortalised with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.

Only twenty five indivudually specified examples will be built.
